BIOGLOW™-säsongen börjar 4 augusti — vad du kan vänta dig

On August 4, 2026, FIRST® LEGO® League opens its new global season — and Finnish teams will be part of it from day one. The season is called BIOGLOW™, and it takes children and young people on a journey through the fascinating ecosystems of our world, from coral reefs to rainforests to the microbial life hidden in a handful of soil.

Every FLL season pairs a scientific theme with a hands-on robot game, and BIOGLOW™ is no exception. Teams will explore how nature, technology, and innovation are connected, then design and build their own solutions using LEGO® Education robotics — all while developing the teamwork, problem-solving, and communication skills that stick with kids long after the season ends.

Two editions, one theme

As in previous years, BIOGLOW™ runs across both FLL programs, so teams of any age can take part on the same calendar:

• FIRST® LEGO® League Challenge (Founders Edition) — for ages 9–16. Teams build and program an autonomous LEGO® robot to complete missions on a themed table, and design an innovation project tied to this year's ecosystem theme.
• FIRST® LEGO® League Future Edition 8+ — for ages 8+. A cooperative, non-competitive introduction to robotics and the engineering design process, built around the same BIOGLOW™ story.

Both editions share the same season materials, the same kickoff date, and the same overall storyline — coaches running mixed-age programs can plan around one shared calendar instead of two.

What happens on kickoff day

August 4 marks the global reveal of the season's challenge details: the missions, the robot game rules, and the innovation project prompt. FIRST® releases the official season kit and challenge documents on this date, and national partners — including our team here in Finland — follow with local kickoff materials, translated resources, and information sessions for coaches and mentors.

What teams should do now

You don't need to wait for August 4 to get moving. Here's what we'd recommend in the meantime:

• Register your team if you haven't already — early registration helps us plan regional qualifiers and materials distribution.
• Order your field and robot materials ahead of time so they arrive before the season kicks off.
• Get your coaches and mentors briefed on the season calendar and the Founders Edition / Future Edition 8+ split, so everyone knows which track their team is on.
